April 12, 2022

Urged by its national duties and corporate responsibility commitments, Dubai Customs launched its Al-Meer Al-Ramadani initiative by giving food and basic needs to 3,000 underprivileged families as part of its annual Ramadan Campaign “Blessed Days”, which is being organized for the second year in a row.

The initiative aims at boosting solidarity and enhancing social cohesion by spreading a spirit of giving.

Al-meer is an Arabic word that means giving food. The Government Department’s Ghayath Volunteer Team was entrusted with distributing food and basic needs in cooperation with the partners: Al-Barari Group, Al Huraiz Packaging, and National Trading and Developing Enterprises. Vouchers from Carrefour stores were also provided for eligible categories.

Dubai Customs said the Al-Meer Al-Ramadani is one of the its main initiatives during the Holy Month, and comes as part of its humanitarian efforts undertaken to improve life, alleviate suffering, relieve needy families and meet their needs for food rations.

In the last five years, nearly 15,000 needy families benefited from Al-Meer Al-Ramadani in various places in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Dubai Customs supports community and charitable initiatives in the country to spread the culture of giving and to reach for the largest number of beneficiaries. The initiatives are directed at different groups in society: the elderly, children "orphans", laborers, and needy families.

Dubai Customs launched a number of initiatives prior to the holy month to promote sustainable community development efforts, including, but not limited to, Iftar for a fasting person, feast for senior citizens, and the joy of Eid (giving gifts to orphans), in addition to sports activities, awareness workshops and Ramadan lectures.
