In conjunction with the Flag Day, which was launched to commemorate the accession of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the nation, and takes place on the 3rd of November every year, Dubai Customs, in cooperation with Watani Al Emarat Foundation, handed out 200 flags to the employees.
Booklets that contain information about the flag and its protocols and how to preserve its dignified status were also distributed.
“This event is part of the Flag Protectors initiative, which has been endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” said Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, Director of Corporate Communication Department. “Distributing the flags to the employees will help raise more awareness around the great values that the national flag stands for. Our national flag is a symbol of pride and represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of the UAE.
“Our flag represents the honor of the country's past, present and future and helps us remember the efforts of the founders of UAE. The flag day renews the national spirit and reflects on the success of the country and a renewal and consolidation of loyalty to our wise leadership. The UAE has recently sent its first astronaut into space, Hazza Al Mansouri, who raised the UAE flag on board the international space station, and this is just the beginning of many achievements to come.”
On his part, Mohammed Khalifa Al Muhairi, Director of Corporate Communications Department at Watani Al Emarat Foundation said:
“The (Flag Protectors) initiative started 5 years ago and aims to preserve the UAE's identity and heritage and instil national values among the younger generation. Our foundation seeks to promote the UAE's cultural and social heritage, and support the development objectives of the country.”
