
Examining the bag with advanced equipment led to discovery of narcotics
Dubai Customs inspectors discovered a haul of narcotics hidden inside an Asian female passenger’s luggage who was coming from an Asian country on her way to a Far East country through Dubai International Airport. Accordingly, the narcotics were seized and the smuggler was captured in the final destination airport after exchanging information meticulously which were communicated by Dubai Customs and the respective local authorities there.
Mr. Ali Al Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations Department at Dubai Customs said that details of the incident started when a customs inspector at the department suspected a luggage on the carousel at Airport Terminal 1 on a flight coming from an Asian country. In coordination with the respective bodies at the airport for enquiring about the luggage, it appeared that it belongs to an Asian female passenger who headed to the transit lounge as she decided to change her destination from Dubai into a Far East country and requested to place her luggage on the new flight departing from Terminal 3. This move has increased the customs employee’s suspicions; therefore, her luggage was inspected through the machine which detected lumpiness inside it suspected to be narcotics.
In line with the mutual coordination and cooperation with the General Department of Airport Security and the General Department of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, information about the luggage and the passenger were communicated to the respective local authorities at the final destination country, in addition to completing the controlled luggage delivery process.
Efforts of cooperation and information exchange between the involved authorities in Dubai and the Asian country rendered into seizing the luggage and detaining the passenger at the airport located in the capital city of this country. Authorities there stated that the luggage contained 3.4 kg of Crystal narcotics.
This reflects Dubai Customs inspectors’ expertise and vigilance which resulted into foiling the smuggling attempt through meticulous coordination and information exchange with the respective authorities internationally.
Mr. Al Mugahwi commended the continuous cooperation between Dubai Customs and the General Department of Dubai Police in handling such cases. He also praised customs inspectors’ vigilance and awareness about the different smuggling techniques as well as their keenness to foster the international reputation of the UAE in the field of combating smuggling of narcotics and contrabands which threaten people’s health everywhere.
Al Mugahwi added that Dubai Customs inspectors constantly receive specialized workshops to develop their skills in the field of discovering narcotics and confronting the twisted new smuggling techniques that smugglers come up with.
It is worth noting that Crystal narcotics contain Methamphetamine which activates the nervous system and damages the neuron-cells. It has many forms like ice cubes or glass. It can be consumed in cigarettes or pipes, some medicine companies use Methamphetamine in producing medicine. However, some people produce this substance illegally after adding some chemicals.
