During his visit to the Dubai International Boat Show 2017 on Thursday (3 March 2017), His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai was briefed on the ongoing work at Port Rashid Marina; a DP World new signature project.
DP World’s 1st phase of the project was inaugurated on the day. Once completed, it will be the biggest marina in the Arabian Gulf, Middle East and North Africa regions. It is also the first smart marina in the world.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum listened to a brief on the project by Mohammed Al Mannaei, General Manager of Port Rashid who said the new project will provide anchorage to 5,000 big and medium yachts and will have direct link to local and international yacht market.
The first phase of the new marina includes 700 berths and will start on 1st June 2017. It will also be able to provide temporary services to meet the different needs of yachts and boats. I am very happy the project is well ahead of the deadline.
Commenting on the project, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation said:
"This Marina will be a turning point in cruise tourism in Dubai. It will attract luxury yacht owners to the emirate thanks to its advanced infrastructure that can serve big yachts efficiently".
Bin Sulayem explained that turning Port Rashid into one of the world's best cruise tourism attractions will boost tourism in Dubai in general following the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
"The project will meet the increasing demand on luxury yacht berths from around the world coupled with other services and capabilities including storage. Dubai has become one of the world's most attractive cities for cruise tourists. The emirate has a vision to attract one million cruise tourists by 2020 and Port Rashid Marina will help us achieve this" he concluded.
