About 70 fishermen benefited from the health awareness campaign organized by Dubai Customs in cooperation with Dubai Health Authority. They got their blood pressure and glucose checked, their weight & height measured, and they acquired useful medical and health tips.
Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs & Government Partnership Division in Dubai Customs Stated that Um Suqaim Port Campaign came out as : “ part of our social responsibility towards society”. He pointed out that DC role is not limited to the security, economic and financial areas, but also to implementing activities and initiatives that benefit the community.
She added that the Department considers its social responsibility as part of the Global Compact of Human Rights of the United Nation Organization and the Primary Agreements of the International Labour Organization. By adopting social responsibility practices, the department can benefit from Social Accountability standard SA 8000:2008, she explained.
The participants expressed their gratefulness and appreciation towards Dubai Customs for giving them the opportunity of getting a medical check-up at their workplace and valuable medical advice on how to eat and drink healthy food and beverages, and keep them away from the risk of getting infected with various diseases.
Last year, Dubai Customs built houses with the needed amenities for the fishermen in order to facilitate their living. In addition, the department took part in the fishermen’s Port Clean-up Campaign in Al Mimzar Area within its community initiative in order to take care of this segment of people which is linked to our parents’ and ancestors’ career and to boost the Department’s national identity.
