Dubai Customs organized an educational workshop for its employees and inspectors on how to distinguish original from counterfeited goods as part of its efforts to raise awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and maintaining the rights of trademark owners.
30 employees and inspectors from different departments participated in the workshop which took place at the Customs Training Center at Dubai Customs headquarters. A number of representatives of international companies clarified to the attendees methods of how to differentiate between original and fake products and the practical and applicable distinctions found in different goods. Such a thing definitely assists customs inspectors to identify original and counterfeit goods in record time.
Dubai Customs is keen on raising its employees and inspectors awareness about the different methods of distinguishing original goods from fake ones in order to develop their competency and for the impact of such an issue on individuals’ health and national economy. It is worth mentioning that these efforts come as part of the efforts made to implement the recommendations of Dubai Declaration which was issued during the fourth Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy hosted by Dubai Customs in February 2009.
The efforts made by Dubai Customs in the field of combating IPR infringements increase investors, traders and companies and trademark owners’ trust. They also help multiply foreign capital into the local markets while providing the required legal guarantees to ensure protection of their rights against counterfeiting. Moreover, these efforts contribute directly to halting the entry of fake goods into the local market which also increases the consumers’ trust in the products purchased.
It is worth noting that Dubai Customs cooperates with its strategic partners including the Brand Owners’ Protection Group (BPG) in order to safeguard the local economy from all kinds of counterfeiting and commercial fraud as well as the community from all that threatens its individuals’ health and safety taking into account that counterfeiting is an international epidemic and real danger for all countries and communities.
