Dubai Customs organized on 14 March 2013 an awareness lecture about traffic safety delivered by a number of officers from the Directorate General of Traffic at Dubai Police as part of GCC Traffic Week being held under the theme of “Our Goal .. Your Safety”.
The lecture was attended from the part of Dubai Customs by Khalil Saqer, the Director of Corporate Communication and from Dubai Police part by Major Ateeq Al Katabi, Director of Events, Bur Dubai, 1st Lieutenant Abdul Aziz Hassan Al Shamri and Lieutenant Hamdan Ahmed Bin Ghafan.
During the lecture, Dubai Police officers addressed the issue of traffic safety whilst driving on road and the rules required to be followed when driving including necessity of fastening safety belt, refraining from using mobile telephones, focusing on road, to be cautious of early morning fogs and using headlamps in anticipation of any accident.
Dubai Customs employees were informed during the lecturer of road traffic accidents statistics in the emirate of Dubai, number of casualties and deaths over the past period together with Dubai Police effort to control such accidents and injuries resulting from them.
The statistics showed a decline in rate of deaths between 2011 and 2012 recording 134 death in 2011 as compared with 124 deaths in the past year.
Dubai Police officers attributed the decline in rate of deaths to the traffic campaigns being organized by the Directorate General of Traffic in which the society, university, college and school students are involved underlining that Dubai Police seeks to protect the lives and not collecting money.
Khalil Saqer, the Director of Corporate Communication at Dubai Customs underlined the necessity of disseminating awareness among society members about the dangers that may encounter them while walking on road particularly under great number of vehicles within the emirate.
Mr. Sager added that all drivers are to drive their vehicles unhurriedly and with no recklessness so as not to expose others` lives to danger since driving is considered to be an art, taste and ethics.
Mr. Sager praised Dubai Police awareness efforts and its outstanding role in transferring knowledge together with educating the society about issues dealing with traffic safety.
“ This lecture being held at Dubai Customs main building comes as part of the joint cooperation and coordination between Dubai Customs and the Directorate general of Traffic at Dubai Police,” he said.
At the end of the lecture Mr. Sager expressed his appreciation to Dubai Police Delegation giving them out a memorial shield in recognition to such valuable lecture.
The visiting officers were taken for around at Dubai Customs childcare Centre, accompanied by Maitha Khalaf Almarri, Senior Manager of Childcare Centre where they got acquainted with work process and special facilities for providing services to Dubai Customs buds, particularly, Dubai Customs gives due concerns to enhance social spheres with its human capitals and this have fruitfully improved female employees satisfaction
The delegation also learnt about Dubai Customs Child Care Program, knowing that Childcare Centre always involve participation of children in its varied events, such as local and international religious and national celebrations, in addition to implementation of training courses for developing children’s skills to enable them using their abilities in repairing and handcrafting unwanted and disposable items to convert their use into beautiful crafts and acquiring new skills to help them in the future life.
At the Childcare Centre, the officers distributed gifts to children as well as drawing & coloring books on the occasion of the GCC Traffic Week – 2013. The children expressed joy and happiness for the officers’ visit at the Centre
