In cooperation with Air Cargo Operation Department and the Technical Support Department, the Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division at Dubai Customs launched the “Customs Open Day” initiative.
The initiative comes as part of a series of activities organized by Dubai Customs in order to raise school students’ awareness about the Department’s role in maintaining safety and security in the society and protecting it from the entry of harmful and prohibited goods.
Umm Suqeim Elementary School in Dubai hosted the event through which Customs presented numerous activities such as flying the UAE flag at full mast, machines shows, K9 Unit- Dog Squad shows, awareness lecture for the teachers and the students about the role Dubai Customs plays in maintaining society’s safety and security as well as contributing to economic growth and reinforcing legitimate trade.
The Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division showcased a documentary film about the history of Dubai Customs and the transitional period it has gone through from the past and to the present reflecting on the journey of development and prosperity Dubai has taken.
Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division said:" This is a Customs CSR initiative that targets a specific group in the society as Customs is keen on introducing the future generations to the responsibilities and the roles performed at the Department in social development, safeguarding the community and protecting it from counterfeited and illegal products which threaten humans’ health, the environment and the economy.”
Mrs. Noora Seif Al Muhairy, Umm Suqeim School Principal commended the success of the function and its sought objectives. She confirmed that students now have a better understanding of the role of Dubai Customs which is a national organization that contributes to economic development, protecting society and facilitating the cross-border trade movement.
At the end of the “Customs Open Day” event, Mr. Omar Ahmed Al Muhairy, Air Cargo Operation Manager at Dubai Customs presented Mrs. Al Muhairy, the school’s Principal a memorial gift and an appreciation certificate in recognition of her response to Dubai Customs request to hold this event for the first time in the school.
Mr. Al Muhairy praised as well the entire team for their success in delivering Dubai Customs mission to the majority of the students and the faculty. He also stressed that the Department seeks to hold more constructive events for the different society segments in order to communicate Customs mission everywhere.
