The suspect who attempted to smuggle the Crystal narcotics.
Dubai Customs inspectors recently foiled a bid to smuggle 1.57 kg of Crystal narcotics which is prohibited internationally. The haul was brought in by a passenger coming to Dubai International Airport- Terminal (1) from an African country.
When a female Customs inspector suspected the bottom area of the baggage due to some lumpiness detected, she seized the baggage and requested further assistance from another inspector who opened the baggage’s bottom and found secret pockets there, in the left side they found foil wrapped with a brown duck tape concealing a white substance which distinctly looked like Crystal narcotics and weighed 785 grams. On the right side they also found foil wrapped with a brown duck tape covering a white substance which was Crystal narcotics and weighed around 786 grams.
Mr. Ali Al Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations at Dubai Customs said that during interrogations, the passenger negated acknowledging the contents of the baggage. He claimed as well that he received the baggage and its contents and did not know what was inside of it in order to deliver it to some people in an Asian country.

Mr. Al Mugahwi pointed out that the passenger, the seizures and the seizure record were transferred to the General Department of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police so as to continue the investigations and expose all the implicated identities in this case.
Mr. Al Mugahwi stressed that the vigilance of Dubai Customs inspectors enables them to foil any smuggling attempt of prohibited items which threaten the local society. He said that regardless of the twisted smuggling techniques, smugglers fail to accomplish their operations due to the highly-qualified staff Dubai Customs has who are well aware of the body language and discernment. Besides, Dubai Customs adopts plans to trace drug dealers and narcotics smugglers and the destinations they are heading to.

Mr. Al Mugahwi clarified that Crystal narcotics contain Methamphetamine which activates the nerves system and has many forms like ice cubes or glass. It can be consumed in cigarettes or pipes, it can also be melted in water and injected through needles and it can also be grinded, inhaled or swallowed. He explained that some medicine companies use Methamphetamine in producing medicine. However, some people add this substance illegally to chemicals such as those used in cleaning products.
Narcotics’ trading destroys economy the most since it targets the youth widely and is based on a parallel economy which has secret activities that rely on money laundry and smuggling. Smugglers tend to use different methods to hide narcotics such as luggage, wallets, socks, handbags, clothes, shoes, guts, cigarettes packets and underwear.
