Dubai Customs takes clients to wider horizons of goods clearance

October 17, 2010

Not only do the advantages provided through B2G (Business to Government) electronic business channel are to obtain a new service from Dubai Customs for entering and processing customs transactions related to goods clearance, but they also include benefits such as saving time, costs and efforts enormously in a way encouraging all clients to join this initiative which embodies a live model of strategic partnership between the government and business sectors as well as reinforcing the economic situation and trade activities in the UAE.

Mr. Juma Al Ghaith, Executive Director of Customs Development Division at Dubai Customs said that despite the use of the other advanced electronic systems at Dubai Customs which help accelerate procedures and serve the clients, B2G channel takes the client to wider horizons than he ever expected. The clients, whether they were companies, operating in the trade domain or courier services or whatsoever of the acknowledged business and economic sectors, they can punch in their goods and cargos information only once to their own internal systems- using B2G- eliminating the need to re-enter the information twice since it automatically exists in Mirsal 2 system; the hi-tech system launched by Dubai Customs in the end of March 2010.

B2G which is an integrative part of Mirsal 2 uses the existing information in the system once declarations are submitted by the clients through their internal systems, and in one click all information are transferred to Dubai Customs system (i.e. Mirsal 2) after setting up the clients’ technical systems and linking them to Mirsal 2 system.

Mr. Al Ghaith believes that the shift to B2G channel can save up to 66% of the clients’ time per one customs transaction since it is reduced from 15 minutes in the previously used e-systems to 5 minutes only through B2G. Moreover, he predicts costs saving for entering a customs declaration from AED 5.21 to AED 1.74 in addition to reducing the efforts made by two persons to complete 100 transactions; thus, making use of these efforts in performing different activities.

Mr. Al Ghaith further noted that a number of companies dealing with Dubai Customs joined this new initiative which relies on this new technical solution. These companies have expressed their satisfaction towards B2G due to its positive outcomes on developing their business besides the saving aspects of time, costs and efforts. He said that B2G is available for the different categories of clients irrespective of their business volume. “All that needs to be done is just connecting and aligning the client’s own internal IT system with Mirsal 2.” He added.

Mr. Al Ghaith also believes that several clients will join B2G in the upcoming period due to the successful implementation witnessed recently in cooperation with a number of the companies which have large number of daily transactions tackled at Dubai Customs.

He stressed as well that the Department will continue to develop and enhance its business systems and procedures in order to achieve the mutual benefit, grow the national economy and enhance Customs presence locally and internationally.
