400 Employees participate in a series of knowledge lectures at Dubai Customs

Dubai Customs organized a series of knowledge lectures that aims to spread the concept of customs business among all its employees as a part of the “Knowledge Management” Project which is supervised by Customs Development Division. 16 lectures where conducted as a part of this project, with a participation of more than 400 employees from beginning of January till the end of October, 2010.
 
“Knowledge Management” Project is aimed at developing the employees’ customs knowledge and increasing their awareness about the developments related to their work; hence, providing more distinctive and sophisticated customer services in the Organization through a series of lectures that deals with topics on customs business such as the means of customs investigation, policies, customs declarations, intellectual property, code of conduct, registration & licensing services, customs audit methods, the revised Kyoto Convention, security and trade facilitation.

“Knowledge Management Project is aimed to enable the employees to make effective and fast decisions based on instantaneous & documented information, by building the necessary working mechanisms for spreading out the concept of knowledge through imitating, evaluating, enriching and facilitating the exchange of information to end up with effective decisions which contribute to the achievement of Dubai Customs objectives” Said Mr. Juma Al Ghaith, Executive Director- Customs Development Division at Dubai Customs. He also added: “We always intend to develop our employees’ skills and increase their awareness of various customs issues since this will ensure a positive output for the benefits of the Customs customers and increase its revenues as well as contribution to the economic growth of the Emirate.
 
Mr. Al Ghaith stressed that at the present the project targets all departments, sections and Dubai Customs employees. As for the future, the plan is to reach out the public as a whole in Dubai; to raise customs knowledge awareness.

During the last two months of this year, 13 other lectures will be arranged on similar topics, in addition to the customs inspection and customs intelligence. The lectures will be re-conducted among all customs centers including Dubai International Airport to circulate the project amongst all Customs employees.
 
In the upcoming period, a series of new lectures dealing with the non-customs knowledge will be held as part of the Knowledge Management project such as the information technology, technical support, change management, organizational structure, technical planning, business needs management and the human resources in line with the requirements of DGEP and providing a highly qualified and more creative governmental employees with solid professional knowledge.
