Dubai Customs Officers Seized 8kg Narco-Opium Concealed in Handbags Shipment

Dubai Customs inspection team at the Cargo Village caught 8kg of narcotic opium hidden into a parcel coming from an Asian country heading to deliver in a European country.
Mr. Omar Almuhairi – Senior Manager of Cargo Village Air Operation at Dubai Customs explained the parcel contained leather handbags as described in the customs declaration and it weighs 24kg. the customs inspector suspected in the contents of the parcel as an x-ray imaging system showed anomalies at some areas seemed like some stuff as the image showed. Officers subsequently probed and operated manual searching and extracted a dark color substance with characteristics of the narcotic opium stuffed at the periphery inside some bags. After approaching a drug sniffing dog, the shipment was identified containing narcotics. This was immediately confirmed by DC mobile lab report after examining a sample of it at the Cargo Village. The report results positively assured the contraband as a narcotic substance.

Within the framework of mutual cooperation with Dubai Police General Directorate of Anti-Narcotic, the seizures report and the contrabands were referred to take necessary actions and procedures.
Mr. Almuhairi said this seizure indicates that drugs smugglers never cease finding inventive crooked ways and methods to gain illegal and unlawful interests especially if drugs addiction becomes widely used amongst youth in many countries. Yet, these newly inventive ways of smuggling will be thwarted by DC inspectors and they will be vigilant to abort such crooked and misleading ways despite of the fact that they daily handle huge numbers of parcels shipment. He assured.
The facilitation delivered by Dubai Customs with aim of accelerating movement of activities as accordance to WCO principles doesn’t mean to be reluctant in carrying out inspection procedure since this will effectively ensure legitimate trade movement and locally protect our community and individuals from the risks of smuggling prohibited and restricted goods which cause harms if used. He said. Dubai Customs will consistently adopt these protective measures and will provide specialized training courses programs to develop efficiency and skills of inspectors and their functional capacities.
