Dubai Customs has recently donated a number of computers and PC accessories to Mohammed Bin Rashid Humanitarian and Charity abolishment as part of its program in refurbishing used computers with the help of Dubai Municipality and Microsoft. The donation program is mainly intended to rehabilitate such systems and PC equipment and then donate them to educational, societal and charitable organizations so that the systems may help in implementing technical educational programs.
The donated items included 38 PC’s, 30 printers and 5 monitors. These donated systems have become outdated due to on-going technical and electronic progress that takes place in the department. The systems were collected within the environment preservation program adopted by Dubai Customs through methods of recycling, reusing and rationalization to preserve environment and reduce carbon emissions that can be caused by manufacturing or dumping these machines. These machines release 80% of their share in carbon emissions during manufacturing processes.
Mrs Feryal Tawkul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership at Dubai Customs said: “This initiative comes within the context of Dubai Customs recent engagement with Dubai Municipality for collecting computers and PC equipment disposals to the benefit of refurbishing program which is supervised by Dubai Municipality in cooperation with Mohammed Bin Rashid Humanitarian and Charity Establishment. The first donated batch have previously been received this year by Dubai Municipality and this is the second batch within this initiative that is intended to benefit school children in poor countries.
“In our activities and operations, we are committed to preserve the environment and natural resources. We encourage our employees and stakeholders to comply with best practices for reducing pollution risks and promote recycling of materials. To achieve this end, we utilize the quality management system in consistent with the requirement of ISO 14001:2004 . therefore, we decided to incorporate all requirements of SA 8000:2008 in-line with used computers and PC equipment for recycling and rehabilitation and give opportunities to utilize them by the needy educational, societal and charitable organisations, especially, this program which aims at refurbishing and repairing computers and PC equipment for charitable activities in an environment friendly manner, and achieving essential partnership amongst all related agencies and enhancing opportunities for spreading technical education” she added.
Dubai Customs launches several charity campaign throughout the year to benefit charity societies. It regularly donates PCs, clothes, shoes, bags to the establishment based on the MoU inked between the two parties in 2002.
Mr Saleh Almazroui, Director of Mohammed Bin Rashid ALMaktoum Humanitarian and Charity Est. praised the contribution and great efforts done by Dubai Customs in supporting charitable programs from the time of concluding the MoU in 2002. From that time, Dubai Customs has never spared any efforts to support the program of these organisations. He highlighted that the systems and PC equipment contribution initiative to Mohammed Bin Rashid ALMaktoum Establishment is coming as part of humanitarian and charitable initiative.
“The Establishment is working cooperatively with Dubai Municipality PC Repairing Centre and Microsoft to refurbish and repair these systems and then donate these PCs and equipment to poor countries” he added.
Mr Almazroui explained that Dubai Customs had previously given some donations to the Establishment which included clothes, shoes and bags.
Mr Almazroui reiterated that “ the continued cooperation between Mohammed Bin Rashid ALMaktoum Establishment and Dubai Customs supported and aided 30 countries, especially, the contribution of the sewing machines which gave opportunity of training to many individuals through the specialized training centres. He, on behalf of the Establishment, expressed his thanks and appreciation to Dubai Customs, enumerating its continued efforts in areas of humanitarian, charitable and community activities.
