380,000 inspections and 512 seizures conducted in 2014

H.E Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, paid an inspection visit to Jebel Ali Customs Centers. He was accompanied by Mr. Abdullah Mohammad Al Khaja, Executive Director of Clients Management Division and Mr. Butti AlJumairi, Executive Director of Human Resources, Finance and Administration Division.
Yousuf Al Hashemi, Director of Jebel Ali Customs Centers Management, gave a presentation on key challenges, achievements and initiatives put forth by the management during 2014. Some encouraging statistics were also highlighted, particularly  in relation to employee satisfaction which increased from 61% in 2013 to 88% last year. Jebel Ali Customs Centers made 512 seizures in 2014. A total of 380,000 inspection operations were conducted on containers that were screened by the advanced x-ray container scanning system and referred to physical inspection based on risk assessment data retrieved from the Risk Engine. Al Hashemi also presented his department’s strategic plan and objectives for 2015 geared to achieve higher performance and implement best standards of customer service. 
Commenting on the presentation, Dubai Customs’ Director underlined the importance of maintaining and improving the accomplished employee satisfaction rate, as well as providing conducive working environment  so as to enhance employee productivity and keenness on delivering optimal service level and facilities to customers; hence creating customer happiness and loyalty – rather than mere satisfaction – consistent with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Afterwards, during the subsequent field visit, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih met with employees and inspectors at their working sites. He commended everyone’s efforts, stressing DC’s commitment towards leveraging human capital capacities and enhancing service level in Customs enters in order to better facilitate legitimate trade and boost national economy while also and most importantly safeguarding the community against the perils of illicit trade.
The tour kicked off at Dubai Customs’ customer service center in Jebel Ali port and moved to include the port’s Gates 2, 3 and 7 and the container x-ray scanning station, where the director praised the keenness of DC inspectors on accurately and efficiently expediting the clearance of cargo consignments, using the latest smart inspection technology.
Ahmed Mahboob’s visit also extended to include the clients service center and inspection center in Dubai Logistics City, where he urged to step up positive engagement with clients, listening to their opinions and catering to their needs to improve customs services and promote Dubai’s competitive edge in terms of trade facilitation.
 At the end of the visit, the Director of Dubai Customs thanked DC staff and inspectors, calling upon them to double their efforts in order to take customs performance to the next level by harnessing the spirit of innovation and creativity. “Dubai Customs welcomes any new creative ideas from our employees and will take much care to turn them into real achievements that will add value to customs work and its vital mission towards sustaining national economy and protecting society,” he said.
