April 29, 2014

The Ladies Committee at Dubai Customs congratulates people of the UAE for the United Arab Emirates’ ranking number one in the world for treating women with respect, according to the Global Social Progress Index. The Ladies Committee commented that this global recognition is the result of the government’s diligence and insightfulness, under the wide leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Securing a good life for the people, particularly women, is a value deeply-rooted in the Emirati culture and traditions, as directed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Maryam Al Shamsi, Head of the Ladies Committee at Dubai Customs, said:” The Emirati women have made numerous achievements in various fields locally, regionally and internationally. Thanks to our government, people of the UAE have an adequate standard of living, with women being empowered to realize their goals. Ever since the UAE was established, women have been granted the right to education and have made massive contributions to the economic and social development of the country. Women are now in leading positions everywhere. We have lady teachers, doctors, engineers, and diplomats. Let’s not forget mothers, who have the hardest job – raising generations.”

The Deputy of the Ladies Committee at DC, Nassim Al Mehairi, pointed that this upsurge of the respect for women indicator within the UAE stands as a paramount evidence of the beheld consolidation between the leadership of this country and the people. It also validates our government’s keenness on granting each and every citizen their full set of rights. “These governmental efforts towards women in particular are explicitly interpreted via a wide range of programs and initiatives, such as the women societies’ allocated and operating all over the country, providing a wide array of programs empowering the Emirati woman with full independency in managing her own projects, besides bridging women with international and local conventions and seminars scoped towards discussing woman issues.”

Al Mehairi added that in 2010 Dubai Customs in collaboration with Dubai Women Foundation launched the best working mother award, which is the first of its kind on the local government level, as a  tribute  of praise towards working women at DC who succeeded in achieving optimal balance between their professional, social and family lives while delivering highest productivity levels at work. The award is honoured with the generous support of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and chairman of Dubai Women Foundation.

“The UAE has always honoured the woman while securing all of her rights that level up to her stance and role on the family level and in the society as a whole. Emirati woman is an integral partner in the sustainable development process. UAE women have always received the adequate support and appreciation from our leadership, enabling them to assume a prestigious role on national and international arenas”, said Mahbouba Baqir , Public Relations Officer at Dubai Customs Ladies Committee.
