H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai visited the Dubai Customs stand at Dubai Government Achievements Exhibition (DGAE). H.H was introduced to the latest achievements of the Department and viewed the “Kashif” Cart which embody an innovative idea mainly brought into light to abridge travellers’ Customs procedures at Dubai Airports, by means of presenting a commutable Cart fully geared up and equipped with 16 high-tech inspection and detection devices, each of which targeting certain types of contraband. The Cart has been developed with the efforts of national staff from within the DC. The Cart is also a winning model of the Innovative Idea Award at the 2013-2014 DGEP 17th edition.
During his visit to the DC stand, H.H Sheikh Mohammad was introduced the DC newly developed Unmanned Quad-copter. This UAV was developed in order to assist the Customs inspection operations, specifically for Dhows moored at Dubai Creek. The idea came into realizations as a part of the constant encouragement for pioneer and creative ideas from public employees to put forth creative initiatives, such as innovative ideas, development projects and suggestions that would contribute to improving the government institutions and advancing the community at large.
Sheikh Mohammed voiced his admiration for these outstanding creative initiatives developed internally by DC staff, with the aim of further facilitating trade and travel flows while preserving national security against infiltration of illegal goods.
The visitors of DGAE appreciated Dubai Customs’ showcased achievements. Six outshining projects illustrating DC’s on-going accomplishments and vital developments were on display, including Al Kashif Cart, Unmanned Quad-copter, Smart Government Services, Advanced Container Scanning System, Risk Engine system and “Mirsal 2”.
Dubai Customs initiated the Smart Government Services Project; utilizing internal IT resources and to the latest communications technology to cater all of the DC services to customers via its mobile-enabled website, which compatible with all kinds of smartphones and smart devices.
DC’s advanced container scanning system, which won this year’s DGEP Distinguished Technological/Technical Project Award, is the first innovative and comprehensive solution in the world that combined and integrated multiple disparate components of inspection technologies. It is the latest world-class integrated system for containers and trucks screening. The device can screen the contents of 150 trucks per hour moving at 8 to 15 km/hour, that is one truck per every 24 seconds. The system is designed to effectively protect the borders of Dubai and the UAE.
Dubai Customs’ Risk Engine also attracted the attention of so many visitors in the show. Fed in advance with information about all consignments from different channels, this smart system is developed in-house by Dubai Customs to assess and turn down any risky transactions. The Risk Engine has helped increase the volume of seizures for locally and internationally prohibited as well as restricted cargo.
Also on display by DC is Mirsal 2, an integrated multifaceted electronic system. It was developed internally over a period of two years, aimed at boosting economy and facilitating a streamlined trade flow.
