
Dubai Customs organised a seminar, under the title “Woman between Giving and Self-Discovery”, in response to the global activities held on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8 every year. This year’s celebrations were held under the theme “The Inspiring Change”, to encourage and support the progress made by women worldwide.
The seminar took place at the Dome Hall with the participation of a number of women employees. Dr Moza Ghubash, Director of Ousha Bint Hussein Cultural Foundation, and Hala Kazim, Social Consultant, were the main speakers at the event.
Dr Ghubash spoke about the history of Emirati women and their active and remarkable role in the community in current and past times. She said that women used to work in agriculture and industry, besides raising their children. They played a major role in preserving the country’s heritage and national identity. In the meantime, 99% of Ministry of Education employees are women and there are 12 thousand policewomen in the UAE. There are women holding senior and leadership positions and serving in the diplomatic corps and the state’s cabinet.

On the other hand, Hala Kazim spoke about the tremendous role women take on in the society through raising up the next generations and contributing to shaping the future. She highlighted the sacrifices women make to improve their children’s education, indicating that women need to take care of themselves first to be able to assist others advance in all facets of life. The government pays women a lot of attention and offers them specially-tailored services and immense opportunities to express themselves, to help them reach their targets in life.
At the end of the seminar, Mr Khalil Saqer, Director of Corporate Communication Department at Dubai Customs, presented Dr Moza Ghubash and Hala Kazim with memorial shields for their participation in the seminar. Lady janitors at DC building were also honoured and received gifts, in expression of DC’s gratitude to their efforts and dedication.
