Dubai Customs handed over Dar al Ber Society employees’ in-kind donations for the needy in the UAE and overseas which included men and women’s clothes, shirts, Abayas and books as part of the humanitarian and social campaign launched by Dubai Customs in July 2011 to donate extra second-hand slightly used and reusable items, under the title “God loves a cheerful giver”. Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division at Dubai Customs said that this ongoing campaign which comes as part of the Department efforts towards fostering corporate social responsibility programs at the Department and among its partners as well as lending a hand to the needy who suffer scarcity of life basic requirements is in coordination with charitable societies and associations in the UAE such as Mohammed Bin Rashid humanitarian and charity Establishment, Red Crescent Society and Dar Al Ber Society to deliver the donations to their beneficiaries.
The Department placed dedicated boxes to collect the donations at the different customs centers at Al Khour Customs, Airport Free Zone, Silicon Oasis, Jebel Ali Customs Center, Dubai Int’l Airport terminals 1, 2 and 3, Customs Creek Entry Center, Dry Dock Center, Al Awair Customs Center, Al Hameriyah Port, Hatta Customs Center and Ducamz.
The in-kind donations were handed at the Department’s headquarters at Port Rashid Center in the presence of Aisha Abdulla Sheikh, Section Manager at Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division and Abdulla Ibraheem Abdul Jabar, Manager of Community Service Department at Dar Al Ber Society. This is the second batch of the in-kind donations delivered to a charity in the UAE.
Mrs. Tawakul said:" the type of the items which can be donated were selected differently for each month as per the occasion and needs; for example, in April we receive women’s clothes, in May kids’ toys, in June and on the occasion of holy Ramadan we will be collecting Ramadan ratio “Meer” (i.e. rice, flour, sugar and oil), in July there will be coupons for Eid clothes and in August Dubai Customs will be collecting schoolbags and stationary which coincides with the new school year since many families find it difficult to provide for all school necessities such as bags, pens and notebooks...etc.”
She added that in September there will be Eid clothes coupons and October is assigned to collect wedding gowns and dresses for women. As for November, women’s accessories and children’s shoes will be collected and in December, the Department will collect blankets and heavy coats which coincides with the season of winter.
Dar Al Ber Society expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Dubai Customs for the great efforts it makes and numerous contributions to the charitable projects carried out by the Society locally and internationally. The Department support to the charitable societies is uninterrupted especially when “God loves a cheerful giver” campaign is considered a social and humanitarian initiative launched and conducted by Customs.
