Dubai Customs foils bid the “Flour Capsules” smuggling attempt at Dubai Int’l Airport

Dubai Customs inspectors caught an African female passenger coming from some Asian country trying to smuggle 2.59kg of cocaine in a plastic handbag containing some flour while attempting to enter the UAE through Dubai Intl Airport- Terminal(1).

Mr Ali AL-Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations at Dubai Customs, emphasized that the expert and skillful knowledge of the Customs inspectors deployment across the ports have successfully led to the detection of the seized goods. at the Airport, inspectors suspected in the halted passenger after she had passed the passport inspection area; her state of confusion and perturbation attracted the attention of the team who put her under close surveillance. At the customs inspection area, the X-ray image machine showed anomalies in different areas inside the bag and some oval images hidden inside with some foodstuff.

Mr AL-Mugahwi, said that the handbag was manually searched at the presence of the passenger and the suspect was confronted with the detected tiny plastic materials which contained some flour powder where some 190 capsules with characteristics of narco-cocaine were found. The flour used as deceitful way with intention to fool Customs officers at Airport. the Technical Support team at Dubai Customs was immediately called to examine the sample. The report examination results confirmed the contraband weighed 2.59kg and identified it to be narcotic cocaine

AL-Mugahwi reiterated that Dubai Customs is always keen to provide qualified expert efficiencies with proficient and advanced knowledge. They are well-trained in fields of inspection and body language technicalities and this will enhance the knowledge of inspectors and help them to interpret people’s behaviors. Dubai Customs also provides advanced inspection and examination machines and tools in adherence with the department’s vision, mission and values while taking into account that the Department is the first front-line vigilant protector of the community against any infiltration attempts of drugs and prohibited goods

AL-Mugahwi explained that at the Passenger Investigation Administration office, the halted passenger admitted that she received the narcotic substance from somebody at departure and told her to hand it over to another person in Dubai. As per the mutual cooperation and coordination between Dubai Customs and the Anti-Narcotics Department, the captured passenger “smuggler” along with the contrabands and the seizure investigation reports were transferred to the Anti-Narcotics office at Dubai Int’l Airport.
