Dubai- Dubai Customs and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirmed their keenness to maintain the efforts made to develop the services provided to the clients in the trade and economic sectors in the UAE inline with the government vision towards boosting local economy, sustaining growth rates and reinforcing the UAE competitiveness internationally.
A business meeting was held yesterday at Dubai Customs headquarters to look into these vital issues. During the meeting, H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General and H.E. Hamad Bu Omim, Director General of DCCI looked into aspects of joints business opportunities and means of reinforcing communication channels in order to achieve the utmost benefits to the clients and traders by facilitating business procedures at both departments.
Both sides intend to do so by establishing a joint electronic link for the procedures required by the clients in a way enables them to complete their transactions through one electronic portal without having to visit both departments’ headquarters and centers. This endeavor supports the previous step made by the two departments when a Customs office was open at the DCCI headquarters in Deira last February to facilitate business procedures handled by the clients.
The electronic link will make a huge positive impact in terms of completing transactions clearance more easily and in a shorter time. It will also help exchange information between both sides in accordance with the mutual coordination and exchanging expertise.
Moreover, both sides agreed on creating a joint team that combines Dubai Customs and DCCI representatives who will permanently work together in order to simplify the procedures and to provide the clients with services of higher quality.
Ahmed Butti Ahmed: Customs has vital role in educating new companies about importing and exporting rules
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed stressed the vital role DCCI plays in positioning Dubai as an international trade hub. He also said that the DCCI is considered a strategic partner to Dubai Customs.
The DCCI includes under its umbrella all the business sectors which do business with Dubai Customs and require various clearance procedures from both sides. H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed confirmed Customs ongoing coordination with DCCI in this regard.
On the other hand, Customs plays a major role in educating the newly established companies in Dubai and raise their awareness about the rules and regulations of importing, exporting, re-exporting and the business procedures at the Department. Customs is keen on providing procedures which facilitate and support legitimate trade movement through facilitation and compliance.
Furthermore, H.E. Hamad Bu Amim congratulated Dubai Customs for launching Mirsal 2 which is a quick and precise electronic Customs Declarations System distinguished for its Risk Engine which protects the local market and society from the entry of harmful and prohibited goods. H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed discussed the possibility of connecting Mirsal 2 with the DCCI to facilitate completion of clearance procedures.
Bu Amim commended the efforts made in cooperation with Dubai Customs with regards to furthering the business environment in Dubai in a way serving the public benefit. He also said that DCCI provides a platform to connect Dubai Customs with other business groups and councils which are under the DCCI umbrella through holding business meetings and establishing new and efficient communication channels which foster competitiveness in Dubai.

“Choosing DCCI by the Federation of UAE Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the national guaranteeing agency of ATA Carnets system would contribute to boosting trade and the industry of exhibitions in the UAE as it facilitates customs procedures and saves time and effort. The immediate implementation of the system would also reinforce the solid cooperation between DCCI and Customs.” Bu Amim further noted.
H.E. Bu Amim stressed that Dubai Customs and DCCI represent a real example-to-follow of true cooperation and continuous business integration. He pointed out as well the common government team IPR project which was adopted and led by Dubai Customs. The team comprised of a number of federal ministries, departments and government authorities, including DCCI, and has received Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) Award last year.
