Dubai Customs foils a bid to smuggle 8190 prohibited medicine tablets

Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai cargo Village foiled a bid to smuggle 8190 prohibited medicine tablets into local market being hidden inside electronics cargo imported by a local trade company from an Asian country.
Customs inspectors found, while conducting normal inspection for electronics cargo, according to the documents attached thereto, a quantity of medicine tablets of unknown use and not contained in the declaration invoices presented to Customs by the importing company.
Samples of the tablets were referred to the Department of Drug Control and Registration at the Ministry of Health, which advised the prohibition of such tablets.
The incident constituted a smuggling crime and a violation in connection with the customs declaration as bringing such tablets into the country is a violation to the Federal Law No. (20) Of 1983 concerning Pharmaceutical Profession and Institutions.
The goods owner has not brought the prior permission from the competent authority in the country, a process deemed to be a customs smuggling as provided for in Article (142) of the Common Customs law of the GCC States of 2003.
The necessary actions towards such types of smuggling were taken accordingly.

The training courses being provide to inspectors and Dubai Customs concern with developing its manpower have led to great positive results in promoting and strengthening inspectors` skills and capabilities a s well as upgrading the level of alertness and precaution towards misleading methods adopted by smugglers to bring in prohibited products illegally damaging the economy and the society members safety and health.
