Dubai Customs Honors Female Winners of Al Thuraya Award in Support of Women's Vital Role in the Customs Sector






In support of sustaining the vital role of women in the customs sector, owing to their immense skills and influential competencies, Dubai Customs honored the female winners of the "Thuraya Award for Leading Women in Customs." On behalf of H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs, CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Mohammed Al Ghaffari, Executive Director, Human Resources, Finance and Administration Division, presented the award to 45 female employees from the Department. 


The ceremony took place at InterContinental Festival City Hotel and was attended by executive directors, department managers, female leaders, female committee officials, and female employees from federal and government entities across the country.


The award ceremony for this year was distinct as it was held alongside the Customs Women Forum; the first of its kind in the world. The forum witnessed the presence of distinguished female leaders and featured discussions on important topics related to female leadership, envisioning the future, and the role of women in customs in safeguarding societal security. The third edition of the award included new updates, such as the addition of financial rewards to support and motivate the awardees in increasing productivity and enhancing their involvement in the coming years. 


Dubai Customs' Director General expressed his utmost delight in honoring the female employees, extending his heartfelt wishes for their continued success and prosperity as they further enhance their pivotal role in the workplace. He emphasized that the prestigious Thuraya Award for Leading Women in Customs has become an exceptional platform to shine a spotlight on the outstanding and commendable achievements of women, not only in various professional domains but also specifically within the customs sector. This wise approach of supporting Emirati women is an unwavering commitment, aligning with the visionary guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the invaluable directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.


The Director General of Dubai Customs proudly highlighted the remarkable role of women, comprising one-third of the department's workforce, and with the potential for even greater representation. Within Dubai Customs, there are 746 exceptional women making a difference, including 280 inspectors and 59 occupying influential leadership positions. Recognizing the paramount significance of empowering women in the customs field, the department remains steadfast in their unwavering support across all sectors.


On her part, Farida Fadhil Al-Muaini, Acting Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division, said that the First Customs Women's Forum is one of the most prominent events of the "Thuraya" Customs Women's Award. The forum sheds light on the role of women in maintaining security and facilitating procedures while focusing on supporting and empowering women in all fields of work. She emphasized that the customs women are an important part of the industry of the future due to their effective role in maintaining national security and achieving economic stability. 


Dr. Hala Al-Yousufi, Corporate Excellence Expert and Chairperson of the Thuraya Award Committee, reaffirms the commitment to support and empower women, while enhancing their role in government work. The Leading Women in Customs (Thuraya) Award serves as a testament to Dubai Customs' dedication to empowering women and recognizing their invaluable skills, immense capabilities, and positive competitiveness. 

The Customs Women Forum featured four sessions discussing women-related topics. The sessions covered areas such as achieving work-life balance, the role of female inspectors in customs, recognizing pioneering women, and the connection between women and the future. The forum aimed to empower women and promote excellence, innovation, and future foresight in the customs sector. Female leaders from government and private sectors in Dubai attended the event.
