Dubai Customs wrapped up the 5th UAE Customs Week with a closing ceremony attended by H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs, CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, directors and heads of customs departments and centers and employees.
The four-day event (24-28 January) was organized under the slogan “Customs Digital Transformation Pioneers” in conjunction with the International Customs Day, which is observed annually on 26th January. It contained 32 initiatives and activities organized by 13 customs centers and departments and saw the participation of 1,500 persons (strategic partners, clients, school students and Dubai Customs employees). Most of the events were conducted virtually considering the precautionary measures.
The second phase of the Cross Border e-commerce Platform was launched in the opening day in the presence of H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman & CEO and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, H.E. Ahmad bin Lahej Al Falasi, Acting Director General of the Customs - Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs, H.E. Rashid Mohammed Hammad, Director General of Fujairah's Customs Department, and H.E. Hamad Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai Authority.
On 26 January, Dubai Customs celebrated the International Customs Day, and in a recorded message to Dubai Customs, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) said the UAE is an outstanding example in digital transformation and creativity. Mikuriya applauded Dubai Customs for their vital role in facilitating global trade.
At the closing ceremony, H.E Ahmed Mahboob Musabih said Dubai Customs has turned into a fully digital workplace through the implementation of a set of smart and sophisticated systems including Mirsal 2. He pointed out the 5th UAE Customs Week has become an international platform for customs knowledge exchange, highlighting the pivotal role Dubai Customs plays in facilitating trade and securing the borders.
The activities of the 5th UAE Customs Week varied to include roundtable event with the Japanese External Trade Organization, awareness workshops about the K9 Unit, customs scanners and a roadshow exhibition to highlight the historical depth and the role of Dubai Customs, the mother of departments, in the history of the emirate.
In the final day, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih honored the 13 departments who actively participated in the event.
