Open meetings to boost employee engagement at Dubai Customs

To enhance employee engagement and internal communication, Dubai Customs’ Human Resources division, held “open meetings” for employees as part of a continuous and sustainable annual campaign to boost communication and engagement, as well as to answer their queries and keep them updated on HR’s new initiatives. The ultimate goal is to achieve job satisfaction while improving performance, productivity and efficiency at work.  More than 900 employees benefited from these biannual meetings during the first half of this year.




 “Dubai Customs attaches great importance to the development and empowerment of its staff to be able to effectively perform their duties of protecting society and facilitating trade,” said Mohammed Al Ghafari, Executive Director for Human Resources Division at Dubai Customs, noting that the Open Meetings initiative proved effective in encouraging communication and interaction with employees and getting to know their concerns and attend to their inquiries. 


“The move will help us ensure more employee satisfaction and loyalty by building good relationship of trust and transparency, which reflects in increased productivity and loyalty to their workplace.”

The HR Executive Director stated that nearly 70 internal awareness and introductory meetings and workshops covering various areas and topics such as human resources management law, career path, etc., were conducted during the first half of this year, with the target being to carry out 105 meetings and workshops planned until the end of the year. 



For her part, Iman Taher, head of Corporate Culture at HR Department, said that a preliminary inventory of the meetings’ outputs was carried out. All the questions, inquiries and suggestions raised by the employees and interactions that took place have been noted and such feedback will be built on to improve our internal communication towards furthering employee engagement going forward. .

She pointed out that following these open meetings an FAQs guide will be issued by the HR Department containing answers to the most frequently asked questions to be a reliable reference for employees, and it will be updated periodically.

The “Open Meetings” initiative falls within the HR Division’s internal communication plan. The division annually rolls out a set of initiatives targeting employees at all functional levels, in order to enhance internal communication within the organization to strengthen the concept of one family, through the open-door policy which seeks to boost transparent communication with staffers.
