Dubai Customs’ inspectors at General Post Office foiled a bid to smuggle 1751 grams of Marijuana and Cocaine into the UAE which was hidden cunningly inside parcels containing Christmas Cards.
Mr. Omar Ahmed Al Muhairi, Senior Manager of Air Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs stated that Customs inspectors at Dubai Cargo Village suspected the postal parcels which contained Christmas Cards coming from an Asian country and heading towards another Asian country via Dubai. After inspection, an herbal material was discovered hidden in a very skilful way inside the parcels. Further examinations by the technical support department, special unit and support division confirmed the doubts as the herb proved to be narcotic.
Al Muhairi added that smugglers always come up with new smuggling techniques and try to make use of any occasion such as the Christmas to carry out their crimes; however, Customs inspectors await and foil them as the Department is employing the most qualified national cadre and provide them with specialized training courses in inspection and suspicion techniques which qualified them to deal with this type of smugglers in a high level of professionalism”.
The case was referred to the General Department of Combating Narcotics for legal measures to be taken. It is worth mentioning that there were 39 attempts to smuggle narcotics inside greeting cards this year.
