Following the Government directives and guidelines, Dubai Customs started a work-from- home scheme for its departments and sections from the beginning of March.
This was made possible thanks to smart systems and advanced technologies in place that helped Dubai Customs employees mamange their work from afar smoothly, with no disruption to any work activities including meetings and discussions among each other and with clients and partners.
Dubai Customs made available a ready-to-go suite of tools for all of its remote workers, including a virtual desktop. It means a user’s desktop environment (the icons, wallpapers, windows, folders, toolbars, widgets, etc.) is stored remotely on a server, rather than on a local PC or other client computing device. Other applications include the Mizlay, which enables employees access their emails and other Dubai Customs applications, and Microsoft Teams to engage in meetings.
Dubai Customs is the first government department to adopt smart systems and it continuously develops and invents smart platforms that facilitate trade. The World Customs Organization has highly applauded the advanced level technology in Dubai Customs reached. This facilitates legitimate trade and supports the international supply chain. According to 2019 statistics, 99% of Dubai Customs transactions were completed through smart and online channels.
“We have long standing experience when it comes to smart applications and work from home. We have never encountered any issues in this regard,” Younis Othman, Director of IT Department said. “Starting from the beginning of March all Dubai Customs departments and divisions began working from home smoothly. Our technical support team is available to assist around the clock.”
