Dubai Customs inspectors foiled a bid to smuggle a haul of prohibited sexual medicine which includes million tablets of a drug manufactured with Sildenafil which can cause serious complications to humans’ health.
Mr. Omar Al Muhairy, Senior Manager of Air Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs said that the received information about a cargo coming from an Asian country raised the suspicions of customs inspectors at the Flower Section of the Free Zone Inspection Center at Dubai Airport; hence, it was inspected meticulously and a haul of one million tablets of prohibited sexual drugs were found.
Al Muhairy added that the contraband was transferred to the specialized body in this field which in its turn declared that the seized drugs are prohibited and unregistered in the Ministry of Health. In addition, the amount seized is considered for trade purposes and the importing company is not licensed to import it.
Al Muhairy said that the case which he named “Flower Pollen” with reference to the place the haul was seized in was transferred to the Legal Affairs Department at Dubai Customs which decided to re-export the seized haul to the country of origin. He pointed out as well that such medicine shall not be entered without obtaining a prior permission from the Ministry of Health which in its turn conducts the necessary studies to check if it is suitable for human consumption.
The percentage of the total prohibited seized drugs by customs inspectors at Air Cargo Department constitutes 10% of the total seizures performed by inspectors on banned items such as narcotics, medicine, restricted goods and counterfeit.
Results of the tests made on 3900 volunteers aged between 19 and 87 manifested that the medical components of such drug causes headache, dizziness, mal-digestion, satiety, mucous membrane congestion, skin redness, diarrhea and visual difficulties in discriminating colors.
Al Muhairy commended Dubai Customs’ inspectors for their high competencies in combating all kinds of operations made by the ill-hearted who to attempt to enter illegal items which harm the security of society, endanger the individuals’ health and pose an obstacle in front of sustainable economic development. Furthermore, he highlighted the potentials Dubai Customs enjoys enabling it to foil such operations and fostering Dubai’s reputation being a safe crossing for international trade.
Al Muhairy said that Dubai Customs inspectors constantly receive the required training courses needed to qualify them and develop their skills and competencies in uncovering prohibited and restricted goods in order to foster their high sense of security alertness, improve their abilities to analyze information and body language, all of which are considered aiding skills to foil suspected operations
