Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs visited the Carpet & Art Oasis 2017, one of the main events of this year’s Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).
“It’s a unique event, organized by Dubai Customs, and since its launch in 1996, the Carpet & Art Oasis has played a major role in adding colours to DSF, attracting more visitors and promoting Dubai as a major trade and tourism hub” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih after touring the event site today,10 January, in Sheikh Saeed Halls 2 & 3 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
The first week of the Carpet & Art Oasis attracted more than 5,000 visitors while 300 carpet items worth more than AED 5 million were sold during this period.
The 22nd edition of Carpet & Art Oasis, which runs until 15 January, is offering visitors and rug lovers the chance to enjoy viewing and buying from more than 200,000 silk and wool carpet items.
The total value of the carpets in the Oasis is estimated at AED 2 billion, including some antique and historic pieces that date back to more than 400 years and were exclusively brought to the event from Iran and Azerbaijan.
Abdul Rahman Issa, Chairman of the Carpet Oasis Organising Committee explained that there are 90 stands for 45 companies participating in the exhibition. Of the 200,000 silk and wool carpet items, 80% are hand-made, with strong participation from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, India and China.
During the event, the Director of Dubai Customs added his personal touch to an artistic drawing symbolising UAE’s Year of Giving.
