
H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Cooperation has met the prime minster of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. Ruhakana Rugunda. The meeting which was held in Dubai on the sidelines of Africa Global Business Forum explored the opportunities of cooperation between Uganda and DP World, and looked into the prospect of the global port operator playing a substantial role in the country’s economic development.
The prime minister expressed his country's desire and keenness to reinforce economic ties with the UAE, and commended the growing trade relations between the two friendly nations, which have benefited from a strong mutual willingness to enhance cooperation in the areas of common interests.
For his part, Sultan bin Sulayem said: “DP World takes great interest in capacity and infrastructure building of African countries, in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support economic development efforts in these countries. I have discussed with the prime minister how DP World can bring in its extensive global experience to assist the Ugandan government in carrying out innovative, growth-generating infrastructure projects in ports and free zone sectors.”
He stressed that Dubai is an undeniably ideal destination for pan-African business. “Mega events such as Africa Global Business Forum further draw attention to Dubai’s role as a vital link in connecting Africa to global value chains, opening new markets and accessing global capital. These forums also provide unique opportunities for African leaders to get first-hand experience of Dubai’s leading achievements as a global role model in the Middle East.”
