The Honourable Macky Sall, President of Senegal, has received His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. They discussed prospects of cooperation and the role DP World is playing in enhancing the ports industry in the country through its DP World-Dakar terminal.
President Sall praised the UAE for taking interest in promoting cooperation with Senegal and expressed his country's desire to continue strengthening trade and economic relations with the UAE in general, and with Dubai in particular.
For his part, the chairman of DP World praised the Senegalese president for supporting the global terminal operator to play a vital role in Senegal’s economic development.
He stressed that DP World is a good representative of the UAE in the domain of managing and developing ports in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support all friendly countries and help build their capacities, particularly in Africa, to achieve high growth and sustainability.
Operated by DP World since 2008, DP World - Dakar Terminal offers a year-round direct access with no tidal restrictions, window berthing and 24/7 ship and yard operations, including ships and containers handling.
The terminal is the favoured first-port of call for vessels southbound from Europe. Good road network connections offer swift transit times for cargo bound for Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Gambia. With its onsite rail terminal, Dakar Port is the historic gateway to Bamako, Mali.
