Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai Airport Terminal (2) foiled a bid to smuggle a haul of Crystal narcotics possessed by an Asian passenger who cunningly hid it inside a plastic black piece fixed on the sides of the luggage with a black duct tape in an attempt to misdirect inspectors.
Mr. Ali Al Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations at Dubai Customs said that a customs inspector suspected a luggage while being examined through the luggage inspection machine; it was therefore searched manually and a black duct tape was discovered on the sides of the luggage. When the inspector removed it, he found a hidden plastic piece which contained a haul of narcotics weighing 2.25 kg which was later identified as Crystal narcotics.
Al Mugahwi added that while interrogating the passenger by Dubai Customs investigators, he admitted to bringing the contraband from his country to deliver it to some of his accomplices in another Asian country in exchange of some money. Thus, a seizure report was issued and the offender was transferred to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police.
Al Mugahwi stressed that Dubai Customs gives much attention to the national inspection cadre and provides them with the necessary support to perform all the delegated assignments besides enrolling them in specialized training courses on how to uncover narcotics and the different smuggling techniques the ill-hearted might resort to in order to infiltrate through the boarders and entries. Dubai Customs seeks to increase inspectors’ sense of customs alertness by equipping them with the most hi-tech available tools for examination and checkups, all of which have contributed largely to sharpening the inspectors’ expertise in handling such attempts and uncovering the different twisted and hard-hitting smuggling techniques.

He further noted:" Drugs dealers often try to spread poisons and drugs in the world in different ways and methods. They manipulate some needy and poor people and take advantage of their situations to carry out smuggling operations by promising them money and giving them false words in a bid to smuggle contrabands. They tend to overlook the great role Dubai Customs inspectors play in counterstriking malpractices, chasing its wrongdoers and aborting different types of smuggling attempts which threaten the society’s security.
