Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Centre received a delegation from the Indian Consulate in Dubai to explore the cutting-edge procedures, systems and tools in place by Dubai Customs. Headed by Dr. Teju Thomas, Honorary Consul at the Indian Consulate, the visiting deputation was introduced to the latest processes and systems Dubai Customs has applied to ensure a streamlined cargo clearance with efficient Customs control.
The delegation was welcomed by Naser Al Jumairi, Director of Jebel Ali & TECOM Customs Centre; Falah Al Sammak, Manager, Terminal 2 Airport Operations; Jamal Bin Dismal, Manager, Monitoring and Control Section at the Technical Support Department, and Meteb Al Bannai, Jebel Ali Customs Centre Manager.
Officials from Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Centre briefed the Indian delegates about the efforts exerted by Dubai Customs in safeguarding both the community and the economy against the imminent threat of contraband and counterfeit products, making use of the world’s state-of-the-art inspection and screening technologies.

The Indian Consulate delegation commended the advanced container scanning system deployed at Jebel Ali Customs centre. The system, which recently claimed the DGEP’s Distinguished Technological/Technical Project Award, is the first innovative and comprehensive solution in the world that combines and integrates multiple high-tech inspection tools and technologies. It is the latest world-class integrated system for containers and trucks X-ray screening. The device is capable of screening the contents of 150 trucks per hour moving at 8 to 15 km/hour, that is the equivalent of one truck per every 24 seconds. Linked with the Risk Engine which targets any suspected or risky consignments, the advanced container scanning system has been developed in order to help effectively protect the borders of Dubai and UAE.
The project was in pursuance of Dubai Customs’ strategic objectives to enhance compliance and support legitimate trade, as well as to keep up with the growing container capacity of Jebel Ali port.
The integration between the container scanning devices, the Customs declaration system and other DC operational systems has significantly helped increase inspection flow at the port, with the capacity to release scanned cargo on the spot without discharging containers.
At the end of their visit, the Indian diplomats were given a tour to the new largest Customs inspection facility at Jebel Ali Terminal 2. Launched late April 2014, the hottest facility operates around the clock to cater to the mounting needs for container handling and inspection in the Middle East’s mega seaport.
