May 08, 2014

The Dubai Customs’ Corporate Communication Department- represented by the Government Partnership Section- held a meeting with the Arabic Language Protection Association (ALPA), in line with DC’s commitment to boost the use of the Arabic language and preserve it as the official language of the UAE.

The meeting was attended by Mrs Maryam Al Shamsi, Manager of Government Partnership at DC, and Mrs Fatema Alzaabi, Senior Government Partnership Officer. From ALPA, Dr. Jamal Al Zarouni, General Secretary, Mr Mohammed Nassar, Administrator, and Mr Mohammed Hamada, Lectures & Activities Supervisor, joined the meeting.

The objective of the reunion is to promote the use of the Arabic language and impart its beauty to the DC staff community. Mrs Al Shamsi expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the attendees for accepting the invitation and for their strive to preserve and support Arabic-language arts such as literature, oratory, calligraphy and other artistic forms.

Mrs Al Shamsi said, ” Indeed, we are committed to building bridges of cooperation and partnership with ALPA, in an effort to serve the interests of both sides. We hope this meeting will be a start-off  to establish productive relations with ALPA."

Joint initiatives to promote the use of Arabic language in the workplace will see the light and will specifically target Dubai Government employees, in particular DC staff, she added.  “Our main focus is to nurture new prospects to uphold the Arabic language for generations to come.”

The meeting ended on a high note as the two sides agreed to launch a joint training program on Arabic language and its arts, along with the discussion of other projects and initiatives of mutual interest. Dubai Customs offered to partner with ALPA in sponsoring one of the association’s major activities aiming to protect and revive the Arabic language.
