Dubai Customs has commemorated its winners and nominees in the 17th edition of Dubai Government Excellence Program 2013-2014. The ceremony, which took place at DC’s Al Furdah Hall, was attended by H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs.
This honouring is an expression of appreciation to Dubai Customs’ employees for the efforts they have exerted and their quality performance which earned DC so many distinguished achievements and contributed to upholding its position locally, regionally and internationally. It also conveys DC’s commitment to providing a stimulating work environment that inspires creative initiatives and promotes institutional loyalty, while encouraging outstanding staff members.
Dubai Customs won six of this year’s DGEP awards out of 17 nominations. The Electronically Distinguished Government Department award was acquired after DC was able to successfully apply many of its IT initiatives by adopting a customs development excellence model, based on international best practices in the area.
Through such model, DC has been able to achieved its goals of trade facilitation, security enforcement, compliance conformance and trade supply chain integration. This led to strengthening the position of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular, on the global competitiveness map.
Dubai Customs also claimed the Distinguished Technical/Technological Project award for the third time in a row. The distinction was won by DC’s Advanced Container Scanning System, the latest integrated and most comprehensive system worldwide for X-ray scanning and inspection of containers and trucks.
The award for innovated idea went to DC’ Al Kashif vehicle that was recently invented in-house and deployed inside the airports to detect any prohibited items in passengers’ luggage. The inspection cart, which incorporates 16 detection devices in 1 device, aims to facilitate procedures for passengers making customs’ routine inspection as easier and friendly as possible.
Furthermore, the distinguished administrative/financial employee award was received by DC’s Hussam Mohammed Juma, Manager of Business Process Department. For the third successive year, Dubai Customs was awarded in the creative employee category, in which Ibrahim Al Kamali, Senior Manager, Terminal 3 Operations Department, got the honors. The unknown soldier employee award was claimed by Maryam Haji Al Balooshi, Senior Clearance Clerk, Jabel Ali Customs Center.
H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation , and H.E. Ahmed Mahboob, Director of Dubai Customs, and Mr. Ahmed Kazim , Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence Department, honored the winners of these awards as well as the nominees in other categories who were less lucky this year.
In his remarks at this occasion, Sultan Bin Sulayem congratulated the winners in the Dubai Government Excellence Program – 17th edition, lauding the role played by all DC staff. He said: "If it were not for your efforts and dedication, these achievements could not have been achieved.” He called on all employees to sustain these achievements by continuing to work harder to accomplish more in the coming editions of DGEP. “The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, for excellence, innovation and leadership, is what has made Dubai a global destination at all levels and enabled it to face all the challenges and realize unique achievements echoed all over the world .
Bin Sulayem added that Dubai Customs is keen to provide all forms of support to its employees and meet all their needs to empower them towards excellence and innovation at work. He pointed out that the world today is characterized by competitiveness and challenges in all areas, calling upon everyone to keep pace with development and work hard to achieve leadership.
H.E. Ahmed Mahboob also felicitated the winners of the 17th edition of the Dubai Government Excellence Program, and thanked all those who contributed to DC’s win of such six prestigious awards. In his address at the ceremony, He affirmed that Dubai Customs is eager to provide a motivating work environment that imparts values of excellence and innovation to the employees. This would help attain the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, for excellence and creativity in all fields and at all levels.
Ahmed Mahboob commended the unique achievements made by Dubai Customs employees, applauding their efforts, perseverance and teamwork spirit, and their determination to give the best out of them and achieve top peaks in all aspects of work. He asked everyone to continue working with the same pace to achieve more success and acquire more awards in future DGEP editions.
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence Department, said “These supervisor results could not have been possible without the coordinated efforts of a single team and support of the senior management at Dubai Customs, especially the higher commission for Dubai Government Excellence Program.” He continued, “This success is the outcome of the way of thinking, strategy, and scientific and business approach applied by the Strategy and Corporate Excellence Department.”
