Dubai Customs Launches an Advanced Gold and Jewelry Valuation Training Program

November 05, 2013

The Dubai Customs Training Center inaugurated a new training course specialized in gold and jewelry valuation. The training course is in line with Dubai Customs’ commitment to building staff capabilities and strengthening their qualifications, thereby enabling them -with high efficiency-to better protect UAE ports, and to promote legal trade internationally.
The design of the new Gold and Jewelry Training package is on the list of the Center’s 2013 priorities and is intended to address recent changes in the global business environment. For Customs employees to be fully acquainted with methods for dealing with traders and clients is of great importance owing to Dubai’s international reputation as a leading gold and jewelry market. Trainees will become able to proficiently provide accurate estimates of the actual value of gold and jewelry pieces, as accurate valuation contributes to promoting competitiveness in this area.
Designed in cooperation with Dubai Customs’ Passenger Operations Department, the package comprises three sub-packages: Trainer’s Package, Trainee’s Package, and pre and final tests.
The training course includes information and hands-on applications in the area of gold and jewelry valuation, intended to make the valuation process easy-to-implement and measurable. Amongst the subjects covered by the training course are: the identification of different jewelry, exquisite watches, precious metals, diamonds, and pearls; export and import transactions, temporary export and import declarations, free zone declarations, transit declarations, and GCC statistical declaration.
According to Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Director of the Dubai Customs Training Center, the Customs Training Center seeks to promote its training practices to international levels of professionalism, and to establish a deeper understanding of the significance of training and trainees’ needs, along with facilitating reliance on national staff who are highly qualified in all customs work fields. In addition, Mrs. Tawakul noted that the Center is keen on running pre and post-training tests in order to measure trainee achievement levels and their satisfaction with the results achieved.
Ms. Seddiqa Yaqoub Ibrahim, Senior Officer at the Passenger Operations Department, was honored for her distinguished contribution in professional package preparation and implementation.
It is worth mentioning that the Dubai Customs Training Center attaches a great deal of importance to the qualifications of internal trainers, and benefits from their experience in implementing different training programs. For internal staff with scientific specializations and long-standing experiences are broadly relied on for high-value, positive-impact training programs which develop trainee skills and leverage their performance.
