Dubai Customs and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority sign a Memorandum of Understanding

Dubai Customs has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to exchange expertise and achieve  optimal results in regards to customer service provision.
In line with the parties’ keenness to implement the electronic link in order to effectively enhance and promote their strategic partnership, and constantly develop it to meet the requirements of all segments of the community, they have signed the memorandum, which shall be reflected on the economic and social development of the UAE.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Director General of Dubai Customs, and H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General – Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, have signed the memorandum on the premises of Dubai Customs,  in the presence of many directors and officials from both sides.
This memorandum aims to identify the best solutions to simplify and facilitate procedures for customers; exchange management and cognitive expertise and practices; provide advice, analyze and assess the effects of security and community protection, as well as coordinate and collaborate in establishing stipulated control procedures to handle the prohibited goods and materials.
The memorandum stipulates the exchange of expertise in regards to teamwork training and providing an illustration of the procedures applied by both departments. Under the MoU, both sides will cooperate in the execution of inspection procedures of communication materials and products, as well as study the optimal mechanisms for improving the provided services,  and examine the duration of consignment inspection and release.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Director General of Dubai Customs, explained that the signature of the memorandum is derived by the vision of the wise leadership and the strategic guidelines that emphasize the importance of coordination, collaboration, and the sharing of expertise among government organizations in order to achieve positive results in all areas of work. It is also considered a commitment to implement the strategic plans of both parties.
The Director General of Dubai Customs added that the Department is keen to enhance the cooperation with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. It is working to integrate the efforts of both departments to achieve the best results in order to provide appropriate services for optimal fulfilment of the requirements of customers from both parties, especially after the announcement of all Dubai Customs’ services transformation to 100% smart services.
“This strategic partnership agreement falls in line with our on-going effort to protect the interests of consumers and all those using telecommunications devices in the UAE. Coordinating efforts with Dubai Customs will be central to any effort going forward,” said HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.
 “This MOU also signifies the collaborative approach taken by a number of government departments to continue the development of the UAE’s world class ICT sector. By working together to ensure the quality of telecommunication devices entering the UAE, both UAE consumers and businesses can be assured that the ICT market and all the devises within it, is of the very highest of international standard,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Dubai Customs channelled its efforts towards attaining the objective of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and was the first government department to transform from an e-Government Department to a 100% Smart Government Department, delivering non-stop services to customers through their mobile phones. This transformation was announced in a press conference last week.
