In 4 separate seizures, Dubai Customs inspectors at Cargo Village foiled bids to smuggle a big quantity of heroin weighing 16.2 Kg during which smugglers were compelled to several tricks to mislead customs officers, using mirror, writing pens, books, clothing embroidery accessories and ladies bags.
“the seizures were made in respect to four shipments in transit over different periods of time this year, coming from an Asian country and heading to Western and Asian countries via Dubai”, said Ahmed Mahboob, Executive Director of Clients Management at Dubai Customs.
“Dubai Customs inspectors, however, being enjoyed with higher security sense, inspection and professional skills, were able to detect the heroin preventing its entry and promotion at the countries of final destination, a process enhances Dubai Customs’ image in the area of international cooperation, and as an administration supporting legitimate trade,” he maintained.
Mr. Mahboob uncovered the details of these seizures when he said that Dubai Customs inspectors suspected a postal parcel coming from an Asian Country heading to a Western country via Dubai and another western country, which found to be a pen, books and magazines as described in the customs declaration”, he said
“the 3 kg weight of the parcel and the availability of books and magazines in the country to which they are destined drew the inspector`s attention”, he added.
“the shipment was then exposed to the scanning devices where images showed density in the contents suspected to be narcotic drugs as confirmed by Customs Dogs Unit when was recalled”, he said.
“By coordinating and collaborating with the relevant security agencies, a controlled delivery for the shipment was processed together with passing the relative information to the security and customs authorities at the two western countries”, he pointed out
“At the country of final destination the books, found to be filled with heroin weighing 1.7 kg, and authorities there reported that the drugs were seized with taking the necessary actions towards the receiving agency,” he said
“Another 2.7 Kg of heroin stuffed in a mirror inside a postal parcel coming from an Asian country to a western country via Dubai consisting as described in the customs declaration, of clothing and personal effects”, he added.
“the same process of a controlled delivery for the country of destination was completed together with passing the information that reached by Dubai Customs about the shipment. The drugs was reported to be seized and dealing with the receiving company”, he said.
The 3rd seizure was 7 kg of heroin detected by Cargo Village customs inspectors hidden in ladies clothing embroidery accessories professionally folded in cartoon pieces.
The 4th seizure customs inspectors found 5.5 kg of heroin in samples of textiles containing a postal parcel as well coming from an Asian Country to another Asian country.
“These efforts come in line with the organizational vision as to be the leading customs administration in the world supporting the legitimate trade”, he said
Dubai will never be an easy crossing for the transit of prohibited and restricted products worldwide including narcotics , which do not affect the economies but also the human capabilities particularly the generation of youth,” he underlined.
“ Dubai Customs provides specialized training courses consistently for inspectors dealing with body language, introduction to kinds of narcotic drugs, manner of inspection and how to deal with seizures including workshops that may enhance the spirit of security and country`s loyalty”, he added.
The Executive Director of Client Management Division praised the inspectors` vigilance and competency who detected such big amount of heroin and their keenness to achieve the organizational strategic objectives to realize security and protection.
