Dubai Customs foils an attempt to smuggle 1.1 Kilogram of heroin

Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai cargo Village have foiled an attempt to smuggle 1.1 kilogram of heroin hidden in a high professional manner inside secret pockets of a handbag shipped in a postal parcel coming from an Asian country and heading to a western country through Dubai in an operation called “Illusory Documents”.

Ahmed Bin Lahj, the Director of Air Customs Centers at Dubai Customs said that the parcel contained clothes and a bag containing “personal effects and documents” as described in the customs declaration.
 
During customs inspection process, customs inspectors suspected of the bag by reason of  difference in levels of density in some places calling for manual inspection where white colored substance having the properties of drugs stiffed in the internal ends of the bag, was found.

The Customs Dogs Unit and the Mobile Laboratory at Dubai customs, which incorporates modern drugs scanners were called in.
 
The result was reported to be positive assuring the inspectors` suspect  of the substance to be the  narcotic drug of heroin.
 
“The owner of the goods attempted to mislead customs officers by forging customs declaration contents mentioning a parcel containing clothes and a bag consisting of some documents whilst found by customs officers to be a bag containing the narcotic drug of heroin hidden inside secret pockets of the bag”, the Director of Air Customs Centers pointed out.
 
“Dubai Customs` effort to combat smuggling of drugs and all prohibited substances will continue proceeding from its strategic vision to support legitimate international trade and to protect the society members locally and externally from the dangers of harmful prohibited substances to health and economy”, he underlined.
 
He also valued the high sense of security of Customs inspectors and their keenness to enhance Dubai and UAE image worldwide.

 

 
Ahmed Bin Lahj also explained that inspectors are enrolled in specialized training courses on inspection skills to boost their abilities to be acquainted with various smuggling methods and types of narcotics. He also indicated that   customs centers are provided with modern scanners and inspection devices.​
