Dubai Customs’ Training Centre has delivered 97 training courses in the first quarter of 2016 to as many as 1,196 employees, representing 40% of the entity’s 2,963-member workforce. That’s a significant increase from the 74 training courses that benefited 851 employees in Q1 2015.
The center conducted a total of 15,860 training hours, 13 hours per each trainee. For this year 2016, Dubai Customs has scheduled 273 training courses totalling 48,665 training hours. These cover different technical and administrative specialties.
The Executive Director of HR, Finance and Administration Division at Dubai Customs Ahmed Obaid Al Falasi, said the training plan covers three key areas: customs, specialized and administrative training programs; all of which are tailored to hone the skills and competencies of employees to achieve the vision and mission of Dubai Customs.
“The courses planned for this year were designed to keep pace with the changes taking place in the world of customs globally and to accommodate the current needs of the workforce. New courses were introduced as well to support the nationwide drive towards spreading creativity and innovation and making the public happy,” said Al Falasi.
According to Dr. Shaikha Al Ghafri, Acting Director of the Customs Training Center, the center for the first time offers specialized security programs, advanced customs courses executed jointly with strategic partners, and strategic programs on happiness, innovation and reading. These are delivered to customs employees alongside the usual customs training courses.
“We identified and analysed the training needs throughout the year and used the outcomes to devise a more focused training plan for 2016. We are definitely seeing more engagement from employees,” noted Al Ghafri.
