Dubai Customs (DC) has organised an official ceremony to observe UAE Commemoration Day (Martyrs' Day), at DC’s headquarters on Monday.
On the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, November 30th was established as a day to remember Emirati martyrs, in honour of the ultimate sacrifices they made for the future of the nation.
H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, led the ceremony, in the presence of executive directors, senior officers, and DC employees.
The ceremony commenced with the flying of the UAE flag at half-mast, and observation of a minute's silence to pray for the martyrs, and concluded with the raising of the flag to full mast as the UAE national anthem played.
"On the UAE’s first Commemoration Day we pay tribute to the sacrifice of our fallen brothers members of the UAE Armed Forces who received the greatest honour of martyrdom while on duty,” H.E. Musabih said.
He added, “Our brave martyrs made great sacrifices throughout the years to uphold peace and virtue, and help those in need. With their loyalty, courage and patriotism, the martyred soldiers have set the perfect example of what our beloved nation truly stands for."
He further stated, "Our heroes will always be remembered for giving their lives to defend the principles and values instilled in us by our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and they will surely continue to be a source of pride and inspiration for all of us and for generations to come."
