Dubai Customs participates in Dubai Government’s Achievement Exhibition 2011 by showcasing its most highlighted technical, administrative and developmental achievements. The exhibition is organized by Dubai Government for the first time under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai and takes place at Dubai World Trade Center on December 19th and 20th, 2011.
H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Dubai Customs Director General said that the Department’s participation in the Exhibition is in line with its keenness to shed a light on its distinctive achievements in the customs business locally, across the Arab world, and worldwide. All of which came as response to the kind directives of HH sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai. They are also the fruit of persistent work and devoted efforts of Customs employees and management in cooperation with its clients and partners.
H.E. Ahmed Butti stressed that through its participation, the Department seeks to anchor Dubai Government distinguished status as perceived in the local and international communities and reinforce communication with its customers irrespective of their category, in addition to enhancing partnership opportunities among government entities and opting to create new ones for developing mutual performance.
He added:" Dubai Customs aims to foster economic and social development in Dubai through all its activities and initiatives and further communication channels with the private sector and the business community, all of which played a significant role in supporting the national economy and facilitating legitimate trade movement in a bid to increase customer satisfaction by best service delivery standards and keeping pace with the directives of Dubai Government to fulfiull their aspirations and exceed expectations from the Department.”
Dubai Customs will introduce the visitors of the Exhibition to some of the most successful achievements attained in the past few years including the electronic customs clearance system; Mirsal 2 which was launched in March 2010 and is considered a historic leap in the customs business due to the marvelous capabilities and hi-tech solutions it is based on, in addition to incorporating the different customs-related business procedures. The System enables the clients to process their transactions electronically and round-the-clock which saves them and Dubai Customs’ staff time and effort, and at the same time rationalizes expenses and increases revenues. 82% of the total 5.8 m transactions and declarations were carried out through Mirsal 2 between January – September 2011. Moreover, there are around 7500 companies registered in the system.
Moreover, the public will be introduced to the first of its kind in the UAE; the Customs Mobile Laboratory which is a dedicated big vehicle carrying a number of hi-tech equipment to perform on-site intensive examination of goods to uncover narcotics, explosions and chemical or radioactive substances and provide precise details on the nature of such items after conducting the appropriate diagnosis in order that they could be handled safely.
Development of Fishermen’s Ports.
Dubai Customs will showcase its role in Dubai Logistics Corridor which was officially inaugurated in October 2010 and bridges Jebel Ali Port, the sixth-largest container port in the world; Jebel Ali Free Zone(JAFZA), and Jebel Ali Port, home to Al Maktoum International Airport, it also seeks to enhance Dubai’s status as the region’s favored destination for exporting and re-exporting and a distinguished logistics platform in the heart of the Arab world linking trade and tourism between the east and west.
Visitors of the Exhibition will get acquainted with the efforts made by Dubai Customs to develop fishermen’s ports at Jumeira 1, Umm Suqeim 1 and Umm Suqeim 2 in order to enhance their living standards and maintain the ancestors’ heritage as well as developing the quays of Dubai Creek in a bid to facilitate maritime traffic in Dubai and prevent marine accidents there.

Development of Khour Dubai Quays.
Dubai Customs is also presenting its achievements in the field of Enterprise Architecture being the first government department to carry out enterprise architecture in the Arab region. Furthermore, the Department’s endeavors in the field of suggestions which rendered into generating AED 108 million from early 2004 up to end of October 2011 will be highlighted as well.
During the Exhibition, Dubai Customs will sign a memorandum of understanding with the General Department of Dubai Civil Defense in the field of exchanging information and expertise as well as coordination and liaison. A joint team will be assembled to supervise executing the articles to be agreed in a bid to further develop both sides’ services offered to the clients and partners.
