Dubai’s beauty products external trade records 16 billion dirhams

The rapidly substantial expansion in the development of Cosmetics market has created an increased stature in Dubai’s external trading in perfumery and beauty products with a total value of 16 billion dirhams in 2012 increasing from 11 billion dirhams in 2009 to record 12 billion dirhams in 2010 reaching 15 billion dirhams in 2011.
 
Dubai Customs statistics pacing with   Beauty world Middle East Trade Exhibition set to be held in Dubai during the period from 28 to 30 May, showed that Dubai’s perfumes and cosmetic products imports amounted to 10 billion dirhams, whereas the  imports and re-exports of such products reached 6 billion dirhams reflecting existence of an active cosmetic products market within the emirate, supporting trading in such products through which it takes place towards regional and international markets.
 
France tops the countries from which Dubai imports perfumery and beauty products, with imports recording 2.6 billion dirhams in 2012, a 27% of the total imports, followed by the US with a total value of 1 billion dirham with a share of 11%. Germany follows with imports valued at 935 million dirhams with a share of 10%. The contribution of these three countries which are considered the largest, most prominent perfumery and beauty products importing market in the world, to Dubai totals 47% of the overall imports of these products. 
In the domain of exportation and re-exportation, Saudi Arabia ranked first with a share of 18% equivalent to 1 billion dirhams, followed by Kuwait recording a share of 7% equivalent to 440 million dirhams and the USA with a total value of 367 million dirhams at 6%. The total share of these countries is 31% of the overall exports and re-exports in the cosmetics sector.
 
Perfumery is at the top of Dubai’s external beauty products trade, representing 22% of total imports with a value of 2.15 billion dirhams, and 26% of exports and re-exports with a value of 1.6 billion dirhams.
It is worth-mentioning that the burgeoning shopping segment in Dubai has vitally contributed to increasing the trade volume of beauty products, by attracting global companies in the field which now consider Dubai one of the most important markets for their products globally.
