The Orphan Day ceremony, which coincides with the 3rd anniversary of inaugurating the Childcare Center at the Department for the employees’ children, was held in the presence of Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division at Dubai Customs and Maitha Khalaf Al Merri, Dubai Customs Childcare Center’s Director, Latifa Issa, Ahmed Abed, Ismael Abdul Karem and Sharifa Ibrahem from Dar Al Ber society, in addition to some female staff at Dubai Customs.
Delivering her speech on the occasion, Mrs. Tawakul said that our true Islamic teachings direct us to be kind to the orphans and is a hailed compassionate step which brings us closer to God. She pointed out that Dubai Customs organized this event in line with its vision towards integrating the economic and social dimensions as well as community integration as a whole and Customs social responsibility represented through these activities which meet the society’s needs for the different society segments and contribute to community development. She added that holding this entertainment day for orphan children is in place to help them realize these goals and make them believe that they are a major and efficient part in this society.
Mrs. Tawakul thanked all those who dedicate their time and efforts to the orphans by visiting and guiding them intellectually and behaviorally, quoting a verse from the holy Quran:" ((And they ask you about orphans. Say, “improvements for them is best)) and as our prophet Mohammed peace be upon him preached us in Hadith: “I, and the sponsor of an orphan, are like this in paradise” (putting his index and middle finger together).
The ceremony commenced with Quran citation by two children of Dubai Customs Childcare Center, followed by cutting the cake with the orphans in support of this noble day. The attendees noticed the beautiful smiles on the orphan children’s faces as they were also given gifts and toys with group pictures taken with Dubai Customs Childcare Center staff.
Mrs. Feryal Tawakul received a memorial gift from Ms. Latifa Issa in recognition from Dar Al Ber Society to Dubai Customs and the contributions made please and to put smiles on the children’s faces on this beautiful day.
The Department’s Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division at Dubai Customs also celebrated the World Health Day 2012.
The event took place at the Customs Training Center in the third floor with the presence of Mrs. Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division and Mr. Ali Saleh Al Mugahwi, Senior Director of Passenger Operations Department as well as Dubai Customs staff and a group of children from the Childcare Center.
Mr. Mugahwi talked at the beginning of the ceremony about the significance of this event on which Dubai Customs is keen to participate continuously taking the initiative in disseminating awareness among the employees about the necessity of caring for general health and making the necessary medical examinations from time to time.
Al Mugahwi said that this year the Department incorporated the elderly’s participation in line with the slogan of the occasion. He pointed out as well that the elderly played a major role in raising the generations and the country’s protectors.
A lecture on how to maintain good lifetime health in cooperation with Doctor Nutrition Center was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Al Rakwa. The lecture focuses on the causes of the increasing number of the elderly, aging characteristics and the common health problems they have.
At the end of the function, Mrs. Tawakul and Mr. Al Mugahwi honored a number of elderly people with awards and gifts and exchanged friendly talks with them about their lovely over-60-year memories. Moreover, medical examinations to test fat percentage and the water retention levels were conducted as part of the activities too.
