Dubai Customs and Dubai Charity Association celebrate breadwinner widows

As part of its celebration of the Emirati Women’s Day, Dubai Customs, represented by the Sea Customs Centers Management, honoured a number of widows in cooperation with Dubai Charity Association. The honoring ceremony took place in the Association’s headquarters with the presence of H.E. Shamsa Saleh, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council, Mustafa Ismail Karam, Member of the Board of Directors of  Dubai Charity Association, Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, CEO, Dubai Charity Association, Nadia Gharib Al-Basti, head of Community Initiatives Committee at the Sea Customs Centers Management, Khalifa Atiq, senior manager of Creek and Deira Wharfage Customs Center, Marwan bin Mashar, senior Manager-inspection, Jebel Ali & Tecom Customs Center, and Mohammd Ghanim Al-Merri, Senior Manager-inspection, Jebel Ali Customs Center.


Dubai Customs also celebrated and honoured all the female employees at the Dubai Charity Association for their dedication and commitment. 


Honoring widowed mothers comes in appreciation of their hard work to preserve their families and provide a decent life to them and empowering women under the wise leadership is manifested in different sectors in the UAE. 


In her speech, H.E. Shamsa Saleh said; “Dedicating a day for Emirati women reflects the continuous support women receive from the wise leadership and is an indication of their significant role as real partners in sustainable development. Different entities in the UAE including Dubai Foundation for Women and Children and Dubai Ladies Club helped empower women to close the gender gap, which led to more female contribution in the national development following the directives and vision of our wise leadership.” 


H.E. Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, CEO, Dubai Charity Association said; “We support women in different aspects. Priority goes to women who are going through difficult circumstances and struggle to earn a living. Equality between genders is our strategy at the Association following the vision of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), the Mother of the Nation.” 


On her part, Nadia Gharib applauded the fruitful cooperation between Dubai Charity Association and Dubai Customs, which is manifested in several joint community initiatives. 


“The national efforts in supporting and empowering women, especially those of H.H. Shaikha Fatima, are undeniable, and the results are amazing; the UAE stands high on different international indexes related to women including equality and safety. Dubai Customs is an ideal work place for women. They work shoulder to shoulder with men, and many of them are working in leading positions in the Government Department,” said Nadia Gharib.
