Dubai auto parts, accessories trade grows 32% in 10 years to AED 38bn in 2018

Dubai Customs revealed that Dubai external trade in automotive spare parts have increased 32% over the last ten years to make AED 38.1bn by the end of 2018, compared to 28.9bn in 2009. The new data was released during a session organized by Dubai Customs on the first day of Automechanika Dubai, the largest international trade show for the automotive aftermarket and service industry in the MEA region (10-12 June 2019).
Commenting on the event, Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs said:
“Dubai Customs supports the emirate’s external trade in different sectors as a translation of the vision of our wise leadership. The automotive spare part sector is very important in this, especially that Dubai successfully managed to interconnect the international spare part market. With its strategic location and active role as a regional and international trade hub, Dubai now connects manufacturers in Asia, the USA and Europe with the customers in the GCC, Africa and India.”

Nassim Al Mehairi, Manager of Statistics Department at Dubai Customs pointed out Dubai trade in automotive spare parts made AED 38.1bn in 2018. Imports had the lion share of 53% at AED 20.3bn, and re-exports made AED 17.8 bn. Japan is Dubai’s biggest automotive spare parts trade partner in 2018 at AED 5.2bn, followed by the USA at AED 2.7bn, Germany AED 2.5bn, South Korea AED 2.3bn, and China AED 2.3bn.
Trade in saloon car tires made AED 2.9 bn, car batteries AED 1.9bn, engine spare parts AED 1.6bn, and truck and bus tires AED 1.4bn.
