Dubai Customs made 973 seizures of restricted and prohibited goods at Terminal 1, Dubai International Airport, during 1Q 2019, which included 14 KGs of narcotics. Around 2.33 million passengers used the Terminal on board 13,406 flights during the same period.
“Thanks to their advanced training and knowledge, performance of Dubai Customs’ officers at terminal 1 has increased,” Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs said during his evening tour to the airport. “Following the principles set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and to contribute towards a vision that sees Dubai the happiest and smartest city on earth, Dubai Customs offers passengers into Dubai airports the best services regardless of their nationalities, race, religion, color or language.”
Musabih was accompanied by Ibrahim Al Kamali, director of passenger operations Department, and Shuaib Al Suwaidi, director of Customs Intelligence.
To keep up with the growth in tourism and travel in Dubai, Dubai Customs continually develops its services and products towards easier flights and happier passengers.
“Dubai Airports handled more than 89 million passengers in 2018, and the number is expected to rise during EXPO 2020, as there will be around 25 million visitors to the grand event. It’s an opportunity for us to seek to deliver unprecedented customs services within our overall leading vision and mission and to support Dubai as a favorite place for tourism and doing business” Musabih said.
“We launched a number of applications in 2018 including “iDeclare”, which enables passengers arriving in Dubai to declare their belongings if needed in only 5 minutes, rather than 45 minutes, and the Smart Suitcase Inspection System which detects any risks before manual inspection” he added.
Musabih highlighted the important role the Passenger Operations Department plays to maintain security and assist passengers in the best possible way, and promised to keep the momentum towards Expo 2020 and beyond.
