Dubai Customs completed leasing 90% of space available for its Carpet & Art Oasis. The 24th edition of the exhibition will take place on the City Walk from 20th January to 14th February 2019 and will host 15,000 carpet items, that have a value of one billion dirhams.
City Walk, the urban living concept by Meraas is a very attractive tourist spot at the vibrant heart of Dubai, and this means heavy footfall to the Oasis is expected. Big space is also another advantage which will enable visitors to shop freely with convenience and choose from thousands of different exquisite and delicate rugs and carpets. The place will host a number of interesting activities during the exhibition period.
An amiable cartoon character, whose name is “Zawlia” (local word means carpet), has been selected as the mascot for the grand event.
The handcrafted carpets are part of the Arabic and Islamic cultural heritage, and the UAE is turning to become the perfect hunting ground for anyone looking to invest in a traditional carpet and.
Farida Fadhil, head of Carpet & Art Oasis organizing committee said the Carpet & Art Oasis is expected to draw thousands of tourists to Dubai, especially for rug lovers who flock every year to the exhibition.
“There’s nothing like this in the world and there’s no other place that brings such a large variety of handmade carpets under one roof” says Fadhil.
On her part, Mariam Al Shamsi, Deputy Head of Carpet & Art Oasis organizing committee said:
“We provide traders and companies with the best services to facilitate their business by reducing the cost of their transactions and save their time. The pieces displayed here are mostly brought from famous countries along the Silk Road”.
There will be a number of activities and surprises during the exhibition period, and amongst the participants is Ms Suhaila Al Khazali, the first Emirati female carpet manufacturer. She will be there to raise awareness around the great value of this art and profession
