Strategy & Corporate Excellence Department Receives Delegation from DED Abu Dhabi to Present DC's Expertise in Developing the Innovation & Creativity Model 


Strategy & Corporate Excellence Department’s Complaint & Suggestions section received a  delegation from Department of Economic Development-Abu Dhabi (DED) to review best practices followed by the section, and the achievements of Dubai Customs (DC) in the development of the Innovation & Creativity Model.

Welcomed by Hussein Al Fardan, Head of DC’S Complaints & Suggestions Section, the Delegation of the Department of Economic Development-Abu Dhabi included Muna Abu Baker, Acting Head of Training and Performance Appraisal, Ahmed Alburkani, Performance Development Consultant, Rashid Eshak Alaley, Institutional Development Analyst, and Huda Elmrekhy, Projects' Coordinator.

Al Fardan started the meeting with a video presentation on DC’s deeply rooted culture of innovation, followed by a detailed elaboration on all criteria related to the suggestions system, participation in local and international awards and the requirements of such awards. The presentation also tackled entering into strategic partnerships that promote corporate innovation in DC.
Al Fardan also presented an overview of the employee suggestions process flow, mechanism to implement ideas, relevant KPI measures, rewards dispensing mechanism, communication channels, and DC’s key local and international achievements and awards acquired by its suggestions system. This included DC’s experience in obtaining Ideas UK’s Platinum rating for the 5th  year in a row, with a full score in the last two years (2013 & 2014). DC also has scooped three main accolades at the Ideas Arabia 10th International Conference & Competition 2015 in Dubai, foremost is the Idea of the Year 2015 for the Smart Customs Audit System; the first-of-its-kind in the world which is the highest accolade in the area of suggestions across the Arab World.
At the end of the meeting, the visiting delegation spoke highly of the advanced work environment that is marked of the highest levels of professional performance, and also commended the close cooperation they received in relation to the system from relevant individuals during the visit. They also thanked DC for its constant collaboration and endeavour to transfer knowledge to the UAE’s public and private bodies, and to roll out its successful experience in motivating the staff and customers to share their creative ideas for sustainable development.
The delegation as well expressed their admiration and appreciation for DC’s efforts in supporting innovation & creativity in the country, so that 2015 can be a year of innovation for the UAE, in pursuance of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the National Innovation Strategy launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. Through such efforts, DC can realize the vision of wise and prudent leadership that stresses the importance of doubling exerted efforts to create an environment that fosters and motivates innovation, taking the UAE to a leading international position in this field.
