Airport Operations Department receives a delegation from the Sharjah Police Headquarters
Within the framework of cooperation and coordination between government departments in the country and to enhance the communication and exchanging of experiences among government entities, the Airport Operations Department of Dubai Customs has received a delegation from the Anti-Narcotics Department, Sharjah Police Headquarters. The delegation made a field visit to Dubai Airports to learn about the work mechanism applicable for passengers’ inspection and investigation techniques. They were also acquainted with the state-of-the-art technologies used in passengers and luggage search in airport terminals 1, 2 and 3. Methods used by passengers to smuggle narcotics were highlighted during the visit in addition to the cooperation and coordination between DC’s Airport Operations Department and security authorities, which involves exchange of international information, namely controlled delivery of narcotics.
The delegation was headed by Colonel Ali Salim Al Khayal, Director of Anti-Narcotics Department, Sharjah Police, and included Major Amir Ameen Al Harmoudi, Major Salim Sultan Bu Haroun, Major Sultan Rahmah Ghazal, and a number of officers.
The delegation was escorted by Ali Al Mugahwi, Director of Airport Operations Department, Khaled Ahmed, Senior Manager Terminal 1 Operations, Walid bin Darwish, Director of Al Maktoum Air Centres, Salim bin Fares, Mobile Team Leader and Head of Command and Control at Terminal 3, Amir Al Awadi, Senior Follow-Up Officer, in addition to team leaders in the department.
Al Kashif vehicle was showcased to the delegation. Al Kashif is deployed at the airport to search for narcotics, explosives and other prohibited materials through the use of its high-tech devices. Moreover, the delegation toured the Seizures Museum in Terminal 3, which displays major hauls and the ways used in their smuggling bids.
The delegation lauded DC’s streamlined procedures for the purpose of facilitating passengers’ movement and at the same time ensure compliance of their personal baggage to the country’s regulations.
At the end of the visit, Al Mugahwi thanked the delegation for their visit, and stressed on the importance of making regular visits in the future.
