IPR Department Organizes Awareness Function for Cruise Tourists in Port Rashid

As part of Dubai Customs (DC) keenness to raise awareness of intellectual property rights and the dangers of counterfeit and fake goods, the team of the Awareness and Education Section at the IPR Department organized  an awareness function in the Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid. The campaign came in the framework of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding  signed with the Dubai Cruise Tourism, an entity of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Organized by the IPR Department,  this campaign is regarded as the first of its kind to brief the tourists coming to Dubai onboard of cruise ships about the DC role in dealing with counterfeit goods. During the awareness event, questionnaires; manuals; advertising publications; and gifts have been given to 600 tourists out of 8,589 tourists  who arrived in Dubai on board  of cruise ships from the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Republic of Latvia, Russia, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Nigeria, and Kenya.

In the 2015 - 2016 season, which ends next May, it is expected that the number of tourists coming to Dubai  on board of cruise ships reach 310,000 tourists.
It is noteworthy that  the Department of IPR in Dubai Customs will continue to implement this awareness  function until the end of May 2016.
